BBOPP is an acronym for Biaxially Oriented Polypropylene.
But what does that mean exactly? Let’s start with polypropylene: this is a thermoplastic polymer (aka polypropene). A thermoplastic polymer is a plastic material that can be molded into shape by elevated temperatures. It can then be solidified and retain its required shape when cooled back down. Below is a video that helps illustrate the malleable properties of polypropylene.
Biaxially oriented simply means the material is put through a process where it is stretched in two directions. It is basically stretched flat to create the BOPP material.
Polypropylene can be used to make textiles and various kinds of plastics. It is also the perfect material to be used for labels.
Benefits of BOPP
- BOPP can be stretched to a very thin surface. This allows the label to be durable, while at the same time, extremely flexible. This, in turn, helps the labels easily stick and curve around small and rounded surfaces like a chopstick tube.
- Another useful property of BOPP material is its wide range of color properties. BOPP can be manufactured in white, clear, gold, holographic, silver and patterned material. This allows for a greater label selection when it comes to appearance.
- Yet another great benefit of BOPP is its resistance to damaging substances such as chemicals, oils and water. It is able to resist most solvents, leaving the material undamaged. BOPP is also non-toxic, making it perfect for any food items. It’s durability makes it the most versatile material to be used for any household, food, cosmetics and bathroom products and everything in between.
